چکیده مقاله:

In the present study, cryopreservation of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) embryos was studied using a stepwise cooling protocol. Embryos at heartbeat stage were selected, placed in 15- ml plastic tubes and stored at -2 °C for 1, 7, 14, and 21 days in 2 different cryopreservation solutions: S1 (methanol + dimethyl sulfoxide + sucrose) and S2 (methanol + propylene glycol + sucrose). Embryo viability was assessed by survival rate, counting live larvae and number of failed eggs under a stereomicroscope.  The results showed that storage of common carp embryos was possible for up to 7 days at -2 °C, while the survival did not occur when storage period were 14 and 21 days. The combination of methanol with propylene glycol (S2) gave higher survival rate after 1 and 7 days stored at -2 °C. Further studies are needed in order to extend the storage time and to improve the survival rate for this species.

Cryopreservation of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) embryos using different cryoprotectant

This study reports that common carp (Cyprinus carpio) embryos were successfully frozen and preserved by vitrification. The modified Haga solution was tested by using two different cryoprotectants and three different concentrations at 4°C to obtain appropriate vitrified solutions ((dimethylsulfoxide 5, 10, 15% (DMSO) and glycerol 5, 10, 15% (gly)) in the study.  The hatching rates of embryos exp...

Common Carp, Cyprinus carpio

The common carp (Cyprinus carpio) belongs to the family Cyprinidae. In nature, carp live in the middle or lower reaches of a river with slow currents, or in marshes. Their habitats are usually weedy areas with a muddy bottom. Carp fry feed on zooplankton such as rotifers and copepods, but as they grow up they become benthic feeders, feeding on animals and other organic material. The cyprinids h...

Lipid Quality of Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) in Pond Culture

There is a large body of evidence that n-3 fatty acids, especially EPA and DHA are beneficial for human health. Content of these fatty acids in fish fillet can be influenced by several factors. This thesis examined differences in lipid content, lipid class and fatty acid composition among three parts of common carp fillets. The effect of genetic background on lipid content and fatty acid compos...

Kinetics of Waterborne Strontium Uptake in the Common Carp, Cyprinus Carpio, at Different Calcium Levels

The uptake kinetics of strontium in the common carp (Cyprinus carpio) were characterized in vivo, exposing preacclimated fish to a wide range of Sr21 (0.27 mM–10.0 mM) and Ca21 (10 mM–10 mM) concentrations in water; 85Sr, 45Ca, and 47Ca were used as tracers in determining the uptake, and the possibility of adsorption of the tracers to the exterior of the fish were verified. The uptake rates wer...

Cardiorespiratory responses of the common carp (Cyprinus carpio) to severe hypoxia at three acclimation temperatures.

In vivo measurements of the cardiovascular responses of anoxia-tolerant teleosts to severe prolonged hypoxia are limited. Here, we report the first direct measurements of cardiac output (Q), heart rate (f(H)) and stroke volume during prolonged severe hypoxia (<0.3 mg O(2) l(-1)) in common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) that had been acclimated to 6, 10 and 15 degrees C. While routine Q and f(H) valu...
